This Halloween, the sun is setting on Net Metering for Some Customers
We took on FirstEnergy to protect the future of solar, and we won in some big ways. Still, for MonPower and Potomac Edison customers, it’s your last chance to lock in maximum solar savings. After this year, the value of solar drops by about 30%. Our installation backlog is filling up fast! To guarantee your spot, you’ll need to get in the queue by signing a contract by Oct. 31, 2024. What does that mean for new residential solar customers?
The return on investment for homeowners in MonPower and Potomac Edison territory who submit an interconnection application after December 31, 2024, will decrease by about 30%. The current program values your excess solar at the same rate as grid power, approximately $.13 per kWh. For customers making the switch after this year, the value of solar power drops to $.093 per kWh. If you want to maximize your solar savings, the time to sign up is now.
What does it mean for putting solar on my business or church?
It’s a bit more complicated for commercial properties. For some businesses, churches, and farms, this policy change is good news. For others, the existing program is far better. There are lots of variables at play, so your best bet is to have our team take a look at the numbers and confirm which program is best for you while there’s still time to act.
