AEP is at it again. They’re raising rates across our region – in Ohio, AEP is tacking an extra 28% onto ratepayers, and it’s even worse for West Virginia – they’ve proposed a 37% (37%!) increase for West Virginia customers this year.
These are huge rate hikes that will have a very real impact on families in our region. I bet you can think of something you’d rather spend your dollars on.
To put that in perspective –
In Ohio, AEP customers will see their rates jump 28% on June first – for a family spending an average $155 per month, they’ll soon be paying almost $200 for the same amount of electricity.
It’s even tougher for West Virginia ratepayers – the proposed 37% rate hike means a family that spends $155 per month would see their bill spike to more than $210 per month for the same amount of electricity. AEP has asked West Virginia regulators to sign on for one of three proposed rate increases: 37% this year, 12% over the next three years, or 3.5% indefinitely.
As for AEP – in their own words, earnings last year were “strong” as they reported raking in $2.3 billion – yes, billion. It sure makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
