Solar Holler is proud to share that we are partnering with Libera, a West Virginia nonprofit that’s committed to identifying and eliminating barriers in the lives of women and teens. One of the ways that Libera helps empower women and teens to reach their full potential is through educational subscription boxes that are designed to introduce youth to STEAM concepts, nature, and well-being through the stories of Appalachian women and places. 

In support of this mission, Solar Holler will be donating educational boxes for WV youth valued at $30 to Libera for every free solar assessment that a customer schedules between May 1st through the 10th, 2023. With the help of Solar Holler’s donation, Libera aims to donate 1,500 activity boxes to West Virginia youth this spring.

From the beginning, Solar Holler has found creative ways to support our fellow West Virginians,” said Dan Conant, founder and CEO of Solar Holler. “We love helping out nonprofits like Libera that share our vision for the future of Appalachia. We’re thrilled to help them educate and inspire our youth and hope to spread some of the good news about solar while we’re at it.”

The subscription boxes going out for this round will be agriculture-themed and will introduce kids to a young female role model, scientist, agriculturist, and farming advocate: Miss West Virginia, Elizabeth Lynch. Miss Lynch is passionate about teaching youth about the origins of their food and the importance of agriculture in WV. Kids will learn about her story and also complete additional hands-on educational activities related to agriculture by reading a booklet included in the box. 

The agriculture-themed box is packed with engaging and educational resources to inspire youth to learn about sustainable farming practices and local food systems. This box includes a Solar Holler Sunflower Planter and accompanying booklet explaining how the sun’s energy can be harnessed to power our homes as well as grow gardens. It also includes other items like a Farm Anatomy Activity Book, a 70 piece buildable cow, a microgreen seed starter kit, ruler for measuring plant growth, a farmers market tote for carrying fresh produce, and a farming coloring book provided by the WV Department of Agriculture.
