Solar power carries a financial benefit called Solar Renewable Energy Credits that is often applied to large, industrial-scale projects, but rarely to residential-scale projects.  At Solar Holler, we bundle our residential projects into a fleet and manage that fleet in the SREC marketplace in order to tap into that value for you.

What are Solar Renewable Energy Credits and how do I benefit from them? 

Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) are credits that your solar panels create as they produce clean power.  There’s an SREC marketplace where companies like ours with significant solar fleets can trade these credits.  In order to convey that value to our solar homeowners (and maximize solar savings!), we include an SREC Rebate in our contracts.  We deduct the estimated future market value of your system’s SRECs as an upfront rebate.  These details can be reviewed in your solar contract by referring to the portion of your agreement that mentions SRECs or Solar Renewable Energy Credits. 

Now that we’ve reached a critical mass of systems in our SREC Rebate Program, it’s time to get your system registered with the Solar Holler fleet.

Will I see any change once my SRECs are registered?

Nope! Nothing about your system’s current operation, your billing, or your utility bill will change. Additionally, the value gained through the SREC program is entirely different from the credits you accrue with the utility.

Can I choose not to register? 

Yes – homeowners can choose to opt out of the rebate, or decline to register with our fleet. If you did not opt out of the rebate when you initially signed your solar agreement, then you’ve already been credited for the value of your SRECs. If you choose not to register your credits, then you’ll need to return the amount of your SREC Rebate, listed in your contract.  That value is generally in the $2500-7500 range. 

What do I need to do?
