Appalachian Headwaters is a nonprofit organization that’s working to develop sustainable economic opportunities in central Appalachia and in 2020, we installed their solar at Camp Waldo.

Camp Waldo is a 1940’s-era summer camp in Summers County, West Virginia that’s owned and operated by Appalachian Headwaters. The camp was originally owned by a coal company and used as a vacation destination for coal mining families. Under its new stewardship, Camp Waldo is back in use as a summer camp for low income children. Since going solar, Camp Waldo is generating 96% of their own electricity and they are on track to save more than $225,000 over the lifetime of the system. That’s $225,000 they can use to grow their impact, invest in their mission and send more low income kids to camp.
