A few years ago, Jessie Norris purchased a charming farmhouse  in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, complete with enough land to raise chickens, geese and a few dogs. Originally constructed in the 1800’s, Jessie knew it’d be costly to heat and cool, and she didn’t want to gamble on what her utility payments may be in the years to come. 

She owned stock in a few different renewables companies – and watched it perform well.  Why should she continue to pay more and more for traditional fuels when she knew renewables were a solid alternative? This realization crystalized things for her – it was clear that renewable energy was a smart investment, and the sooner she could switch, the more she would save over the long term.

“I just thought, it’s going to be well worth it to go ahead and invest in solar now.” she recalls.

She picked us!

Jessie went shopping for solar – doing her research and getting quotes.  The first companies she met with weren’t right.  When she reviewed our website, story and mission she was intrigued.

“I’ve just been really impressed overall. If I needed more information or wanted to change something, the Solar Holler team was always willing to work with me.  I’m sure I asked some silly questions!  They were patient and responsive throughout the entire process.”

Making the financial decision

Jessie’s system was installed in October of 2019 and since then she has seen her electric costs drop to single digits some months! 

Like many of our clients, Jessie opted to use our financing, which made the project more affordable than she was expecting. 

“When I compared my monthly electric bill to the solar loan payment I was like, ‘Let’s do this!’ Plus, I’m paying into a long-term investment. It’s really just a smart deal.”

She tells friends and neighbors who ask: “Can you afford your electric bill? Then you can probably afford solar.”

Monitoring App

Every system we install comes with remote monitoring, which Jessie loves,  “I like to dork out with the app. I’ll turn on my hot water kettle and then look at the app and I can see a spike in my usage.” 

Jessie views her solar array as another one of her investments and the monitoring app helps her maximize that investment. “I know exactly how much power my dryer uses, so when it’s nice outside, I can choose to hang my clothes on the line and conserve that energy to use during the coldest day this winter, or the hottest day next summer.” 

When asked…

As an analytical consumer that does her research, Jessie frequently gets questions about her system and who installed it. She says to folks,
